Attractive locations

Teotihuacan

A huge ancient city northeast of the capital, with the broad Avenue of the Dead and the towering Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. Visitors walk the long avenue and see plazas, temples and faded murals.

National Museum of Anthropology

Mexico's leading museum of the country's ancient and living cultures, with halls on the Maya, Aztec and other peoples, plus the famous Sun Stone. Plan several hours to see it properly.

Templo Mayor

Ruins of the main temple of the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, uncovered beside the city's central square. An on-site museum shows the offerings and carvings found there, bringing the pre-Hispanic city to life.

Chapultepec Castle

Hilltop palace in Chapultepec Park that once housed Emperor Maximilian. It now holds the National Museum of History, with period rooms, murals and broad views over the city.

Frida Kahlo Museum

The blue house in Coyoacán where the painter was born and lived for much of her life. Rooms display her belongings, art and a garden, giving a close look at her world.

Zócalo (Plaza de la Constitución)

Mexico City's vast main square, framed by the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Templo Mayor ruins. It hosts large public events, concerts and national celebrations.

Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe

One of the most visited Catholic shrines in the world, on the northern side of the city, holding the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. A modern round basilica stands beside the older church, and huge crowds of pilgrims come each December.
