Attractive locations

Pamukkale

A hillside of white travertine terraces and shallow turquoise pools, formed by mineral-rich spring water. Visitors walk barefoot on designated paths, which gives the site its cotton-castle look.

Hierapolis

The ruins of an ancient spa city above the terraces, with a large theatre, colonnaded main street and an extensive necropolis. It reflects the Roman era's love of hot springs.

Ploutonion at Hierapolis

The remains of an ancient shrine to the god Pluto, built over a spring that released harmful gas. Today the site can be viewed from a safe distance.

Pamukkale Archaeology Museum

A museum in a former Roman bath building at Hierapolis, displaying sculpture, sarcophagi and finds from the city and nearby ancient sites.

Aphrodisias (Sanctuary of Aphrodite)

The ruins of an ancient city dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite, with a well-preserved stadium, temple remains and finely carved marble. It lies a good drive from Pamukkale.

Kaklık Cave

A cave near Denizli with white mineral-formed terraces and pools underground, sometimes called an underground Pamukkale. Visitors view the formations from paths and steps.

Laodicea

The ruins of a large ancient city a few kilometres from Pamukkale, with colonnaded streets, two theatres and a big stadium. It is a calm contrast to the crowds at the terraces.
