Antalya

Antalya forms the hub for the Turkish Riviera. All-inclusive resorts, an attractive old harbour quarter and Mediterranean beaches are among its attractions.

Attractive locations

Kaleiçi (Old Town)

Antalya's old town, a tangle of lanes lined with restored Ottoman houses, small hotels, cafes and shops, running down to a Roman-era harbour.

Yivli Minaret Mosque

A mosque with a distinctive fluted brick minaret from the 13th century, which has become the symbol of Antalya. The compound stands at the top of the old town.

Hadrian's Gate

A Roman triumphal arch with three openings, built to honour a visit by Emperor Hadrian. It stands at the entrance to Kaleiçi, Antalya's old quarter, and is a fine place to begin a walk.

Kesik Minare

The ruins of a Roman temple that became a church, then a mosque, with a broken minaret still standing. Its layered history makes it one of the most interesting spots in the old town.

Antalya Museum

The city's large archaeology museum, known for classical statues and sarcophagi from sites such as Perge. It closed in July 2025 and its building is being replaced, so check whether it has reopened before you go.

Karaalioğlu Park

A long, tree-shaded clifftop park beside the old town. Its paths lead to sea viewpoints, and the sunset over the bay and mountains is popular with locals.

Konyaaltı Beach

A long pebble beach on the west side of the city, backed by tall mountains. Locals and visitors come here to swim, stroll the promenade and watch the sun set.

Düden Waterfalls

Waterfalls on the Düden stream, where the upper falls sit in a leafy park and the lower falls pour over a cliff into the sea. Easy to reach and good for a short outing.

Termessos (Güllük Mountain National Park)

A national park holding the ruins of Termessos, an ancient mountain city with a theatre and tombs set among pine forest. Reaching the site involves steep paths and wide views.

Karain Cave

A large cave north-west of Antalya where people lived for a very long time in prehistory. Visitors climb a path up to the entrance and walk into the main chamber.

Perge

The ruins of an ancient Pamphylian city east of Antalya, with a large stadium, a theatre, a colonnaded main street and the towers of the Hellenistic city gate.

Aspendos

An ancient city best known for its Roman theatre, one of the best preserved anywhere, which still hosts performances. The arches of an old aqueduct stand nearby.

Getting around

From Antalya Airport

Antalya Airport's site says city buses link the airport with the intercity bus terminal and the city centre; departure times are in the Antalyakart mobile app or available through the transport information line. Starting at the airport, the AntRay tram passes the city centre and the intercity bus terminal before reaching Fatih, and timetables are on antalyaulasim.com.tr. Tour operator buses take package-holiday passengers to their resorts.

Antalyakart, buses and AntRay

Buses and the AntRay tram make up Antalya's city transport; Antalya Airport describes the tram as a link between Fatih, the intercity bus terminal, the city centre and the airport. The transport card is Antalyakart, sold at card centres and top-up points, and its phone-based version does not work with iPhones. Bus and tram readers also accept contactless bank cards, though transfers are not available with them. In the Antalyakart app you can see bus departure times.

Scams and safe taxis

Taxis at Antalya Airport

Taxi stands sit in front of the arrival exits of all terminals, Antalya Airport's site says; drivers wear special airport identification tags, and near the taxi rank there is a fare signboard. For Turkey as a whole, UK advice is to confirm the fare is metered and to note down the registration number of a registered taxi before getting in.
