Mount Kilimanjaro

Africa's highest mountain, a huge volcano with a snow-capped summit. Trekkers climb it over several days, crossing rainforest, moorland, rock and ice-streaked high ground.

Kilimanjaro National Park

The protected area around the upper slopes of Kilimanjaro, from rainforest to the summit. Beyond climbing, the lower forest has colobus monkeys and rewarding day walks.

Uhuru Peak

The highest point on Kilimanjaro and in Africa, on the rim of the Kibo crater. Climbers aim to reach it around sunrise, where a sign marks the summit.

Materuni Waterfalls

A tall waterfall reached on a short forest walk through Chagga farming villages on Kilimanjaro's lower slopes. Many day tours also visit a local home to see how coffee is prepared.

Lake Chala

A deep, blue-green crater lake on the Kenya border, set in a steep volcanic bowl. Visitors can walk the rim, swim in the water or paddle a kayak.

Kikuletwa Hot Springs

A cluster of warm, clear spring-fed pools shaded by palm trees. It is a popular spot for a relaxed swim after a hot, dusty drive or trek.
