Attractive locations

Gardens by the Bay

Large waterfront park known for its tall Supertree structures and two cooled glass conservatories, with a flower dome and a cloud forest. Walkways link the gardens to the bay.

Merlion

Statue with a lion's head and a fish's body, spouting water into the bay. It is Singapore's best-known emblem and a popular photo stop on the waterfront.

Singapore Flyer

Giant observation wheel beside Marina Bay. Its slow turn gives wide views over the city skyline, the harbour and the ships waiting offshore.

ArtScience Museum

Museum shaped like an open lotus flower, beside Marina Bay Sands. Its exhibitions mix art, science and technology, often with hands-on displays.

Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay

Performing arts centre on the bay with a spiky, domed roof. Concerts, plays and dance are staged in its halls, and the waterfront terraces suit an evening stroll.

Asian Civilisations Museum

Museum of Asian art and cultures in a 19th-century building by the Singapore River. Collections cover ceramics, textiles and religious objects from across Asia.

St Andrew's Cathedral

White neo-Gothic Anglican cathedral in the civic district, built in the mid-19th century. Visitors can look around the calm interior outside service times.

National Museum of Singapore

The country's oldest museum, in a grand neoclassical building, tracing the history of Singapore and its people. Its galleries are being renewed in stages until about early 2027, so some may be closed.

Lau Pa Sat

Historic Victorian market building with a cast-iron frame, now a food centre. Stalls serve local dishes, and a street beside it fills with satay stalls in the evening.

Marina Bay Sands

A signature landmark of the skyline, three towers topped by a ship-shaped SkyPark. The complex holds a casino, a mall, a theatre and a public observation deck with views over the bay.

National Gallery Singapore

A museum of Southeast Asian art in the former Supreme Court and City Hall, facing the Padang. Its main Southeast Asia gallery closed in April 2026 for renewal until late 2027, while other galleries stay open.

Helix Bridge

A curving pedestrian bridge with a double-helix steel frame, linking the waterfront promenade with Marina Bay Sands. It is lit at night, and viewing platforms look across the bay.

Getting around

From Changi to Marina Bay

Changi Airport MRT Station (CG2) serves the city, and the airport's page gives two options: go by train as far as Tanah Merah (EW4) and transfer to the East West Line, or travel to Expo (CG1/DT35) and switch to the Downtown Line. According to Gardens by the Bay's page, Bayfront (DT16) is a stop on the Downtown Line. At Terminals 1 to 4, taxis queue in the arrival areas around the clock, and private hire cars booked by app collect passengers at the Arrival and Ride-Hailing pick-up points.

MRT to Marina Bay

Three MRT routes are named on Gardens by the Bay's page. One is Bayfront (CE1/DT16), reached by either the Circle Line or the Downtown Line, leaving by Exit B and using an underground linkway. Another is the Thomson-East Coast Line station Gardens by the Bay (TE22), via Exit 1. The third is Tanjong Pagar (EW15) on the East-West Line, followed by bus 400. Two operators run Singapore's trains, SMRT and SBS Transit, and the network includes LRT lines.

Contactless cards and passes

SimplyGo says a separate travel card is not needed: a card added to a mobile wallet, or a contactless American Express, Mastercard or Visa card, can be tapped instead. NETS cards are listed as well. Stored-value SimplyGo EZ-Link cards and the Singapore Tourist Pass (unlimited train rides and basic bus rides) are also on sale from SimplyGo, at ticket offices, service centres and kiosks.

Scams and safe taxis

Taxi stands at Marina Bay

Designated taxi stands, taxi stops and building driveways, all findable in the MyTransport.SG app, are where the Land Transport Authority advises taking a taxi. Fares are metered and surcharges may apply. The authority has also worked with the operator of Marina Bay Sands on handling the taxi queue that forms along the hotel driveway. Private hire cars, which are booked in an app, pick up at designated points or driveways rather than at taxi stands.

Taxi touting at Marina Bay Sands

Enforcement was announced by the Land Transport Authority in December 2023 against seven taxi drivers over touting and overcharging, at Marina Bay Sands and at Changi Airport, with the authority saying Marina Bay Sands had seen more such incidents. Anyone who meets touting, overcharging or a refusal to use the meter can report it by email or via the OneMotoring service, giving the plate number, date, time and a brief account.
