Attractive locations

Ala-Too Square

The main public square of the capital, with a tall monument at its centre, state buildings around it and a regular ceremonial changing of the guard. A natural starting point for a walk through the city.

Osh Bazaar

Busy open-air market close to the city centre, where stalls sell fresh fruit, nuts, dried goods, bread and spices. A good place to see everyday local life and try Kyrgyz and Central Asian foods.

Kyrgyz State Historical Museum

Large museum on Ala-Too Square covering the history of Kyrgyzstan, from ancient times and nomadic traditions to the Soviet period and independence. Exhibits include traditional felt crafts and everyday objects.

Victory Square

Memorial square dedicated to the Second World War, with a monument shaped like a yurt's roof frame and an eternal flame. Wedding parties often stop here for photos, and it is pleasant for a short stroll.

Gapar Aitiev National Museum of Fine Arts

The country's main art museum, with paintings, sculpture and applied art by Kyrgyz artists from the Soviet era to today. Useful for seeing how local landscapes and traditions have been painted over time.

Ala-Archa National Park

A mountain valley park south of Bishkek, with glacier-topped peaks, pine forest and a rushing river. It is a popular place for day hikes and a starting point for climbs in the Tian Shan.
