Attractive locations

Viñales Valley

Wide valley of red soil and tobacco fields, dotted with steep, round-topped limestone hills called mogotes. It is Cuba's best-known landscape for walking, horse riding and seeing traditional farming.

Cueva del Indio

Cave near Viñales where visitors walk a short passage and then ride a small boat along an underground river. Guides point out rock shapes lit along the way.

Mogote Dos Hermanas

Limestone hill in the valley, whose rock face carries a huge painted mural about the history of life on Earth, made in the 1960s. A viewpoint and small restaurant sit nearby.

Cayo Levisa

Small island off the north coast, reached by boat from the mainland. It has white-sand beaches and clear water, and divers visit the coral reefs close to the shore.

Santo Tomás Cave

One of the larger cave systems in Cuba, with many levels of tunnels beneath the forest. Guided visits are best suited to those who are comfortable with a rough walk underground.

Cayo Jutías

Low island off the north coast joined to the mainland by a causeway, with a long white beach and shallow, clear water. It is a popular beach day trip from the Viñales valley.
