Attractive locations

St. James Church

Catholic parish church at the centre of the village, drawing pilgrims from many countries who say Marian apparitions began here in 1981. Visitors should dress and behave respectfully; the church is an active place of worship.

Križevac

Hill above the village topped by a large white concrete cross. A rocky path with stations of the cross leads up, and pilgrims and walkers climb it for the view over the plain.

Podbrdo (Apparition Hill)

Rocky hillside where the first reported apparitions took place in 1981. A stony path with rosary-themed bronze statues leads up from the village, and many pilgrims walk it in prayer.

Kravica Waterfall

Wide curtain of water on the Trebižat River, falling over a limestone ridge into a green pool. Surrounded by trees, it is a popular place for a picnic and, in warm weather, a swim.

Počitelj Citadel

Fortified Ottoman hillside village above the Neretva, with a stone tower, a mosque and old houses climbing the slope. It is a popular stop for photographers and for walks with river views.

Hutovo Blato Nature Park

Large wetland of lakes, reed beds and channels near the Neretva delta. It is a haven for migrating birds, and visitors come for birdwatching and quiet boat trips.

Vjetrenica Cave

The largest cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Popovo Polje, home to many rare cave animals. Guided tours cover a section of the cave, which stays cool all year.
