Attractive locations

Republic Square

The elegant central square of Yerevan, framed by pink-tuff government buildings and museums. In the evening, its fountains are lit and set to music, drawing locals and visitors alike.

Matenadaran

A museum and research institute holding one of the world's richest collections of ancient manuscripts. Illuminated Armenian manuscripts and rare texts are on display in a building on a hill above the centre.

Erebuni Fortress

The ruins of an ancient Urartian fortress on a hill south-east of the centre, linked to the beginnings of Yerevan. A small museum next to the site shows finds from the excavations.

Tsitsernakaberd

The national memorial to the victims of the Armenian genocide, on a hill above the Hrazdan gorge. Slabs of basalt surround an eternal flame, and a museum below tells the history.

Mother Armenia

A huge statue of a woman holding a sword, standing on a tall pedestal in Victory Park above the city. A military museum is inside the base, and the terrace has good views.

Yerevan Cascade

A giant white stairway of terraces climbing a hillside, with fountains, sculptures and an art museum inside. The top gives wide views over the city toward Mount Ararat.

Khor Virap

A monastery on a low hill close to the Turkish border, known for its view of Mount Ararat and for the underground pit where Saint Gregory is said to have been held. Visitors can climb down into the pit.
