Attractive locations

Garni Temple

A columned Hellenistic-style temple on a cliff edge, the best-known pagan temple in Armenia. It was rebuilt in modern times from its original stones, and the setting has views over a deep gorge.

Geghard Monastery

A UNESCO-listed monastery in a narrow gorge, partly carved out of the rock. Its dim chambers, carved crosses and a spring inside the cliff make it one of Armenia's most atmospheric sacred sites.

Garni Gorge

A deep river gorge beside Garni village, famous for tall basalt columns on its walls that resemble organ pipes, often called the Symphony of the Stones. Paths lead down to the riverside.

Azhdahak

An extinct volcano in the Gegham Mountains with a deep crater that holds a small lake. Hikers climb it for high-altitude views, usually with a local guide.

Havuts Tar

A small medieval monastery in the hills above the Azat river gorge, reached by a walking trail from Garni. It has old churches and carved stone crosses.
